BEGINNER’S MIND

BEGINNER’S MIND…Kanyempwe, Juma B.

Quick Tip!

One of the reasons people don’t learn any subject or skill faster is because they feel like they already know something about it, so they can’t learn something new…Does that make sense!? And one of the keys to be a faster learner is to begin with a beginner’s mind because if your cup is full you can’t put new information into it!!-Superbrain

Beginner’s Mind:-

In this week’s activity, we had hospital visits to Muhimbili National Hospital and Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT). The internship is super cool, so far we are constantly learning new skills everyday. Our main focus was on the mini project and the final project.

At    Muhimbili National Hospital

Our Hospital visit started at Muhimbili Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Due to the tight schedule some of our members were able to talk to the doctor about the challenges they were facing. The PICU is the section of the hospital that provides sick children with the highest level of medical care. It differs from other parts of the hospital, like the general medical floors, in that the PICU allows intensive nursing care and continuous monitoring of things like heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure. In the PICU department the doctors are having a lot of challenges with their equipment some of which is very easy for our team to fix. Some of the challenges were portable suction machines, bubble CPAP, Automatic Chest Compressor,UVGI room and the length board. After moving from that department we split into groups according to the mini projects teams we had. As the Table Screen Team we met Madam Lisa, who was so sweet and kind. We managed to ask her all the questions we had about the table screen they wanted. We also took all the measurements required for the work to be done effectively.

At CCBRT

It was a rainy day and we arrived at the hospital around 10:00AM to start our visit and straight away we went to the Prosthetics and Orthotics Department. We moved in groups and we met Madam Ruth who gave us all an insight into their workshop. We also talked about the challenges they are facing in their workshop and found out some of the designing challenges they were facing. After this long day we went back to the DIT Design Studio to download our findings.
