The Lemelson Internship is an intensive engineering design program. Selected interns learn how to break down complex problems into actionable tasks through design thinking coursework. They also receive education in multiple 21st century skills including Computer Aided Design, 3D printing and Arduino programming. Lemelson interns conduct needs finding within the community to identify problems that they must respond to with a functional device by the end of the program. The program also runs at all other institutions under Rice 360’s Invention Education Workstream. These institutions are Rice University in Houston Texas, Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) and Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) in Blantyre, in Malawi and University of Lagos (UNILAG) and University of Ibadan (UI) in Nigeria.
